Configuring Blackberry with BES

Hi guys,

Recently I had the chance to configure a Blackberry 8700 to work with BES 4.1

Below are the steps to do it
Open Blackberry Manager 4.1 and select the server under ‘BlackBerry Domain’
Select the Add Users link
Select the name of the user -> OK
Right Click the newly created user and Click Set Activation Password.
Set a password for the user. This will be used to when activating the device.

On the Blackberry on the home screen select Enterprise Activation or select it from Options -> Advanced Options -> Enterprise Activation from the home screen.

Note: If the Enterprise Activation icon or the Options icon is missing in the home screen, hold the Alt key and click the roller wheel. In the menu click ‘Show All’

If ‘Enterprise Activation’ option is missing in both locations call the customer care of the service provider and activate BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) on the Blackberry. After activating it switch off the device and remove the battery for 5 seconds. Then replace the battery and switch it on. Navigate to Options -> Advanced Options –> Host Routing Tables -> Select the entry that appears in bold (i.e. has not been registered yet). Select it and click the roller wheel. From the menu select ‘Register Now’. Then select the Enterprise Activation option from the home screen or from Options ->Advanced Options.

Enter the email address of the user.
Enter the password that was set on the Server for the user.
Click the roller wheel and click ‘Activate Now’

Note: If there is an error message saying ‘A problem occurred please contact your System Administrator’ then the most likely cause is the password is incorrect.
If the process is stuck in ‘Waiting for services…’ the it is because there are not enough signals or because the BlackBerry Policy Service and the BlackBerry Synchronization Service have not been started.

After the activation process is complete, on the home screen select ‘Messages’.
In options change the email address to ‘Desktop’
Wait till all the messages have been downloaded.
Then you are all set to go...
